Carbondale Community Arts
A non-profit organization devoted to the arts in the Carbondale area. There are many festivals supported from here, so if you are interested in art you will like this site.

Cedarhurst Center or the Arts
Located in Mt. Vernon, Illinois, "Cedarhurst celebrates the arts year-round with exciting visual and performing arts programs for the public."

The Centralia Cultural Society
A society devoted to bringing more of the arts to the Centralia, Illinois area.

Challenger Learning Center at Paducah
A non-profit organization providing interactive science and math experiences. The Challenger Learning Center utilizes simulation to transport future scientists, engineers and technicians through the portals of discovery.

Girl Scouts of Shagbark Council
The Southern Illinois and Knox County, Indiana council of the Girl Scouts of America.

Greater St Louis Area Boy Scout Council
The Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts of the Greater St. Louis area.

The Hill Neighborhood
An Italian neighborhood in the St. Louis Area. Their site contains information for visitors and residents, many of whom have ties to Southern Illinois.

The Illinois Migrant Council
A non-profit organization promoting employment, educational and other opportunities for migrant and seasonal farm workers and their families to achieve economic self-sufficiency and stability."

Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge
Managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Crab Orchard is one of the largest refuges with three lakes and approximately 43,660 acres of land.

Giant City State Park
This recreational area was named for the rock formations made by geological changes 12,000 years ago.

Cape Girardeau Convention and Visitors Bureau
The official website of Cape Girardeau's tourism office. An excellent look at this Missouri town.

Knox County Convention and Visitors Bureau
Promotes Vincennes · Knox County as a desirable destination for leisure, travelers, motorcoach groups, and overnight meetings.

Regional Economic Development Corporation
A non-profit organization to promote industrial planning, re-planning, development, renewal, re-development and improvement in Southern Illinois.


American Antiquarian Society
A national research library of American history, research and culture through 1876.

American Experience: Wayback
WayBack: U.S. History for Kids is produced by American Experience, television's longest-running, most-watched history series.

The Discovery Expedition of St. Charles
As it says on the main page: "A nonprofit organization dedicated to rediscovering the legacy of Lewis and Clark. We promote education and the study of American history and heritage through discussions and living history demonstrations."

Grouseland: Vicennes Historic Treasure
A site dedicated to Grouseland, the William Henry Harrison Mansion Museum.

H-Illinois Discussion Network
A history and cultural discussion zone. This web site supports discussion about the history and culture of peoples of the state of Illinois and the Midwest region; it offers grant announcements and information of particular interest to university and community college faculty and staff. It is part of a larger web network in humanities and social sciences sponsored by Michigan State University.

H-Net Humanities and Social Sciences Online
A forum for scholars and teachers.
Focusing on Southern Illinois History, this website is the perfect place to start for those interested in broader historical themes in Southern Illinois.

Henager-Rudisill Family Museum
The Henager-Rudisill Family Museum was officially opened in December of 1996 by Mr. James Henager. The museum began as a repository for family memorabilia.

Indiana Historical Society
Indiana’s online front porch; a resource guide for exploration of Indiana history.

Lewis and Clark Illinois
A 3-year long bicentennial festival. It started in '03, so be sure to visit it before it is gone!

Museum of the American Quilters Society

An independent research library and educational institution dedicated to the expansion and dissemination of knowledge in the humanities.

The Shawnee Network
A website devoted to "Those with Roots or Branches in Southern Illinois." Here you can find all sorts of community event from in and around the Southern Illinois Region.

Southern Illinois Association of Museums
A cooperative community of museums, libraries and historical organizations in southern Illinois.

Southernmost Illinois History
A site devoted to the Southernmost history of the state of Illinois, specifically of Alexander, Pulaski, Union, Johnson, Massac and nearby counties. Includes links and information pertinent to the entire River Region.

Spirit of Vincennes
Preserves the heritage of Vincennes through an annual Rendezvous and other events.

Veterans History Project
This web page collects stories of veterans through personal narratives, correspondence, and visuals.

The Williamson County Historical Society
According to the main page, "The Williamson County Historical Society was organized in 1954.~ The purpose of the society is to preserve the history of~Williamson County, Illinois."

Trail of Tears Children's Play
A children's play about the events within the Cherokee nation during the relocation. Winner of the National Endowment for the Arts.


American Experience, Chicago
This page delves deeper into the film about Chicago, referred to as the city of the century.

American Indian Radio on Satellite
Provides authentic Native American music, news, entertainment, interviews and discussions of the current issues in Indian Country and the world. AIROS is an international distributor of Native American programming through the Public Radio Satellite System.

Illinois Periodicals Online
This site is a digital imaging project at the Northern Illinois University Libraries funded by the Illinois State Library association.

Here you can jump into a scrapbook and obtain facts and tidbits about Mark Twain.

The Museum of Television and Radio

Native American Public Telecommunications
Provides leadership in creating awareness of and developing telecommunications related to American Indians and Alaska Natives.

Southern Illinois History and Culture Center
A society devoted to the education of everyone in regard to the rich culture and history of the Southern Illinois region.

StoryCorps is a national project to instruct and inspire people to record each others' stories in sound.

The Southern Illinois Entrepreneurship Center
The mission of the Southern Illinois Entrepreneurship Center is: “To encourage the entrepreneurial spirit to stimulate growth in Southern Illinois.”
