Excellence is Colorblind:
Facing History and Ourselves in Southern Illinois
Civil Rights and Carbondale
The civil rights movement is examined in the PBS documentary, Eyes on the Prize. Events such as the Montgomery bus boycott of 1954 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965 are supplemented with interviews and historical footage.
Locally, individuals such as the former president of SIUC, the late Delyte Morris, and activist Dick Gregory contributed ideas of racial acceptance in the community.
