WSIU Public Broadcasting is pleased to bring you results of the Reading Rainbow 10th Annual Young Writers and Illustrators Contest, a nationwide competition encouraging children to write and illustrate their own stories. The contest is open to children in kindergarten through third grade. Stories were judged based on originality and overall concept, writing style and illustrations.
Every child who entered the contest is recognized for their participation with a Certificate of Achievement signed by Reading Rainbow host and actor LeVar Burton. Local winners receive Reading Rainbow Backpacks, including activities, videos and books, as well as other prizes. First place stories are forwarded to the national contest where they will compete for many other great prizes. National winners will be announced in June. Click here for the Reading Rainbow web site.
