Ready To Learn is public broadcasting's and WSIU TV's on-going contribution to the fulfillment of the first national education goal that all American children will begin school ready to learn. WSIU-TV and PBS are working towards achieving this goal for children in a number of ways:
WSIU TV partners with organizations including Child Care Resource and Referral at John A. Logan and Rend Lake Colleges, area child care professionals, elementary and secondary schools, and libraries. Through informative workshops, materials, and community activities, child care providers and parents understand how to use public television to enhance the growth of youngsters for whom they care. The bi-annual PBS Families/PBS para la familia newsletter is distributed to families and child care organizations. These newsletters contain programming information, parenting and child care tips, and hands-on activity suggestions that extend the value of PBS Kids programs. In addition, WSIU-TV partners with these organizations through First Book, a national program to provide new books to children from low-income families. For more information on the Ready To Learn service at the WSIU stations, call Beth Spezia 618-453-5595 or send an email to beth.spezia@wsiu.org Make your voice heard for children's initiatives! Support the Ready To Learn Service at WSIU with a generous pledge. Indicate "Support for Ready to Learn" in the comments section. PBS Ready To Learn is supported by a cooperative agreement from the U.S. Department of Education, PR/Award Number R295A00002.
