In keeping with our 40-year history of service to children from pre-K through high school, WSIU Public Broadcasting encourages children to participate in our community service projects and to use wsiu.org as an informational resource. We share your concerns for safety and privacy. We will not collect personally identifiable information from your child for use online. If your child sends us an e-mail with a question or comment, or enters one of our contests, we will respond using his or her e-mail, but will not store it for future communications or post it anywhere online.
If we know that your child is under the age of thirteen, we will collect your permission offline (by postal mail, fax or phone) before we post comments or materials submitted by your child, mail any prizes won through WSIU regional contests, or share your child's personal information with any project partner. However, if your child's materials are submitted by her/his school attendance center, the permssions granted by you to the school will be deemed sufficient release and WSIU will not contact you directly.
If your child submits stories, artwork, comments or anything else to us which is posted at our site, s/he will be identified only by community or school, age or grade level, and state. For some online projects, the use of a first name and/or last initial may be appropriate. In these cases, we will not include school names.
Please be aware that other websites may have very different policies and procedures. We are not responsible for online practices or policies at any site other than wsiu.org. When you exit our site by following a link to another website, you will need to examine that site's policy statement to determine whether it meets your needs. All content on PBSKids.org is carefully managed, but other sites' policies and practices may vary significantly. Visit http://pbskids.org/privacy/literacytips.html to see tips on internet safety, and discuss these practices with your children.
If you have suggestions on how we might make the wsiu.org online experience more rewarding for your child, please email us now.
