National ResourcesAmerican Bar Association provides a web site with resources for the public, including books such as The ABA Guide To Family Law, videotapes such as Breaking The Silence: Journeys of Hope, and downloadable brochures to aid in the understanding of practical law and courts and constitutional issues. Center for the Prevention of Sexual and Domestic Violence is an interreligious educational resource addressing issues of sexual and domestic violence. This organization engages religious leaders in the task of ending abuse and prepares human services professionals to recognize and attend to the religious questions and issues that may arise in their work with women and children in crisis. The organization's emphasis is education and prevention. Corporate Alliance to End Partner Violence is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to reducing the costs and consequences of partner violence at work - and eliminating it altogether. Find The Good is a web site created by more than 150 organizations that provides tools to families, workplaces and communities to create environments where violence is not accepted. There are suggestions for what you can do to prevent violence as well as ideas for the workplace and faith communities. Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation offers a web site with helpful information on reaching out to women affected by violence. Included are great ideas for volunteering in your community. National Coalition Against Domestic Violence is committed to the empowerment of battered women and their children and to the elimination of personal and societal violence in their lives. National Organization for Women (NOW) Legal Defense and Education Fund uses the power of law to help define and defend women's rights. Highlights current news on issues of concern to women and features a report entitled, Surviving Violence and Povery. Soroptomist International of the Americas is a volunteer service organization for women in business, management and the professions. The heart of Soroptimist's mission is to "make a difference for women" through volunteer service to the community. Projects are carefully chosen to address challenges unique to today's women. Sample club projects include providing minority women with routine medical care, funding domestic violence shelters, sponsoring career development programs for teen mothers, and tutoring women in literacy and basic job skills. Legal Clinics of the SIU School of Law Murphysboro Counseling Center Prevent Child Abuse Illinois in Marion Shawnee Alliance for Seniors (a Shawnee Rural Health program) Southern Illinois Healthcare (SIH) Access SI Southern Illinois Regional Social Services (SIRSS) Southern Illlinois University Women's Studies Stopping Woman Abuse Now (SWAN) is a residential and walk-in shelter for homeless persons and victims of domestic violence. Located in Olney, SWAN serves the nine counties of Clay, Crawford, Edwards, Effingham, Jasper, Lawrence, Richland, Wabash and Wayne. Women's Services also houses the Campus Safety Program. The Campus Safety Representative provides individual and group counseling to victims of rape, sexual assault or sexual harassment. The program offers self-defense classes, after-hours escort service and rape education and prevention material to individuals, residence halls, classes and groups upon request. Women's Services is located at B-244 Woody Hall (618-453-3655). Walk-ins are always welcome. Both women and men may use the Women's Services office. Southern Illinois Women's Business Council serves and supports all women interested in business. It fulfills its mission by providing training programs opportunity for networking mentoring and resources that may enhance business opportunities.
