IN 19-96...THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT SAID TELEVISION STATIONS IN THE U-S MUST ADD A DIGITAL SIGNAL BY MAY 20-03. AS PART OF THAT MANDATE...THE W-S-I-U AND W-U-S-I PUBLIC TELEVISION STATIONS ARE CONVERTING TO DIGITAL.

RIGHT NOW...OUR VIEWERS ARE RECEIVING SOME SERVICE INTERRUPTIONS AND EVEN POOR RECEPTION IN SOME AREAS... THE EVENING EDITION_S MITCHELL BERMAN TELLS US WHAT "GOING DIGITAL" MEANS...

Mitch at the Wall
THE HASSLES CAUSED BY THE CONVERSION TO A DIGITAL SIGNAL WILL ONLY BE TEMPORARY...
THE W-S-I-U TELEVISION STATIONS ARE WORKING TO PROVIDE QUALITY TELEVISION...AND GOING DIGITAL IS EXPECTED TO DO JUST THAT...

IF YOU HAVEN'T NOTICED BY NOW... WHILE WATCHING THIS STATION THERE HAVE BEEN INTERRUPTIONS AND SOMETIMES POOR RECEPTION QUALITY.

EXECUTIVE W-S-I-U DIRECTOR CANDIS ISBERNER ASSURES VIEWERS THAT THIS IS ONLY TEMPORARY AND NORMAL SERVICE WILL BE RE-STORED AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE.

We hope that would be taken care of very shortly....I expect by early May that we might be on the air back again up in the Olney area and Tamaroa might be the second week or so of May."

BECAUSE OF THE ANTENNAS GOING UP, THERE IS ONLY 20% POWER.
WHEN THE WORK IS COMPLETED...POWER FOR THE W-S-I-U STATION SHOULD BE BACK UP BY 100%.
W-S-I-U ASSISTANT TO THE DIRECTOR LEYLA GOODSELL SAYS W-S-I-U IS TRYING TO PREPARE VIEWERS FOR THE DIGITAL FUTURE.

" I think it's a really exciting time for W-S-I-U and the main thing is just educating people and letting them understand.

FOR PEOPLE TO GET THE FULL DIGITAL EXPERIENCE...IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT YOU HAVE A DIGITAL TV WITH A RECEIVER...BUT YOU CAN ALSO VIEW W-S-I-U ON YOUR OLD TELEVISION AS WELL.
GOODSELL SAYS ITS AN IMPORTANT TIME FOR W-S-I-U BECAUSE IN THE LONG-RUN GOING DIGITAL WILL BE A HUGE BENEFIT

Not just our plain old service that we've always had... but a new and improved sort of analog service as well as a new digital service to all of our viewers.

TWO DIGITAL CHANNELS WILL GO ON THE AIR THIS SUMMER.
THE W-S-I-U DIGITAL CHANNEL 40 WILL GO ON BETWEEN JUNE FIRST AND JULY FIRST...
THE W-U-S-I DIGITAL CHANNEL 19 WILL AIR BETWEEN AUGUST OR SEPTEMBER...
IN ADDITION TO IMPROVING CHANNELS EIGHT AND 16 THE DIGITAL UPGRADE WILL ADD NEW PROGRAMMING SERVICES.

NATIONAL P-B-S PROGRAMMING WILL BE AIRING ON THESE CHANNELS WITH LOCAL PROGRAMMING BEING ADDED LATER.
